SCAC Advocacy Day

Updated: Aug 6

On April 30, 2025, we traveled to Capitol Hill to advocate for federal climate legislation and represent the priorities of students across MCPS. Seven of our councilmembers met with the offices of Senator Chris Van Hollen, Senator Cory Booker, Representative Jamie Raskin (MD-8), and Representative Dawn Elfreth (MD-30), presenting on legislation that impacts climate resilience, clean air, recycling, and environmental justice.

We spoke about bills like the Polluters Pay Climate Fund Act, the STEWARD Act, and the Paris Agreement Climate Goals Resolution, emphasizing how federal policy connects to the realities we see in our schools and communities.

This experience reinforced just how much space there is for young people in federal climate work—and how important it is that we continue to advocate for the world we'll inherit from current policymakers.
